Featured Artist: Joel Augustine, photographer.
Artist Bio:
My name is Joel Augustine. I grew up skateboarding and riding BMX in a rural town in Wisconsin. I used art and BMX riding as an outlet to get out of the bad scene of drugs and alcohol. I focused all my photography in the use of film and polaroids. Throughout college I mostly shot with my zone vi 4×5 wood camera and making my own polaroid cameras. My work focuses on the decay of small towns, the use of photography as recreating memories, and how the use of the camera creates a performance. I finished my Bachelor’s degree in photography from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee in 2012 and from that went into the bicycle industry. Years later I went on to start 509 cycles, where I designed the bicycle frames, photography/advertisting, bike building and overseas relations. Currently I am still working on new bicycles and co owner of the brand.
