SUMMARY:Watercore Taproom
DESCRIPTION:Featured Artist: Malachi Castillote. \nThis First Friday Watercore Taproom hosts Malachi Castillote\, a gifted young artist who has dabbled in several art styles but is most well know for his remarkable graffiti style canvases. Malachi was given a terminal diagnosis of Batten’s Disease CLN2 but has not stopped creating striking and compelling works of art. Through aerosol expressionism Malachi has achieved meaningful success with art displayed and sold in the Seatle Children’s Institute and Black Lab/Bar Gallery in Everett. February is rare disease month and so it is fitting to show Malachi’s work thought the month. \nMalachi will be at Watercore from 6-8pm to connect with people interested in his works. Watercore will have food and drinks available for purchase all evening. Free admission. \nBio\nA gifted soul who connects to others through various art forms\, Malachi is an accomplished young artist who has produced original music\, dabbled in numerous art genres\, and been commissioned by diverse collectors for his remarkable graffiti-style canvases. Initially exposed to art through his mother\, who raised her children engaging in creative activities\, Malachi improved his artistic foundation as he entered a high school art course to enhance his abilities. At eighteen years old and with a promising career ahead of him\, Malachi was given a terminal diagnosis (Batten’s Disease CLN2) that would alter his life & journey through art (including tremors\, brain deuteriation\, and vision failure (currently going blind)\, just a few in a long list of abilities he will lose). Unwilling to shy away from a challenge\, Malachi saw an opportunity to pursue aerosol expressionism\, which allowed him to access untapped potential that proved to be beneficial to his already blossoming reputation as an artist. This journey has led him to tremendous successes\, including being commissioned by Nike executives for original works and donating one of his first pieces to the Seattle Children’s Adult Autism Center\, raising 5k for the organization with one art piece. Malachi has chosen to use his diagnoses and art expression to document his journey/mental health through his art. Malachi’s Art has been displayed & sold in the halls of the Seattle Children’s Institute and Black Lab Gallery /Bar in Everett. In his free time\, Malachi enjoys listening to classical piano music and producing it. He is also an avid athlete who has trained and competed in powerlifting for a Special Olympics (9-time gold medalist). Meet your artist\, Malachi Castillote\, a rare disease patient & local artist.
