DESCRIPTION:Featured Artists: Annual Regional HS Art Show & Beauty of Bronze. \nThe Wenatchee Valley Museum and Cultural Center is proud to sponsor the 47th Annual Regional High School Art Show in cooperation with the North Central Educational Service District and the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction each year. Beauty of Bronze is a non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring young people by engaging them in the artistic process of crafting their own unique bronze sculptures. Participants also visit public sculptures and display their creations in a final exhibit at the Wenatchee Valley Museum. Our mission is to foster community and creativity by providing opportunities for 5th graders to participate in hands-on art experiences. Donations directly support these initiatives\, helping us offer educational programs\, materials\, and guidance that empower youth to express themselves\, explore public art\, and become the future caretakers of our community’s outdoor art collection.

DESCRIPTION:Ubuntu: How an Ancient African Concept Can Help Human Flourishing \nThe Wenatchee Valley Museum and Cultural Center is honored to have guest lecturer Dr. Itohan M. Idumwonyi\, PhD present on Ubuntu philosophy on Friday\, February 7\, 6-8 PM.  \nGonzaga University Professor Itohan M. Idumwonyi invites Washingtonians to explore Ubuntu. Ubuntu emphasizes community building\, a way to reapproach our relationships so we can break the artificial borders that separate us and look out for one another. Directing one’s own humanity to others helps us navigate beyond superficial solutions to rethink\, adapt\, and foster human interconnectedness. \nThis lecture is free to everyone. Pre-registration is recommended and can be found here. \nThe 2024-25 Film and Speaker Series is sponsored by Gesa Credit Union. This speaker event is brought to you by Humanities Washington. \n\nThe Quilt of Hope will also be on display during this event.\n\nAbout the Quilt of Hope Project: Each year\, we hold a drawing for a chance to receive our one-of-a-kind Quilt of Hope\, made from West African inspired fabrics and lovingly sewn by Hope Project partners who donate their time and talents.  The funds raised help sustain our three\, on-site vocational programs in Liberia.\n\nQuilt dimensions are 60″ x 60″. Made with West African inspired fabrics\, the front side is designed in the style of the Celtic Knots pattern.  This Quilt of Hope was created with love by Peggy Frazier\, Peggy McCune\, and Rebecca DeGaris.  We thank them for sharing their time\, hearts\, and talents to create the beautiful one-of-a-kind quilt.\n\nThis year’s drawing will be on March 5th.  Each $10 donation gives you one chance to win.  Purchase tickets here: www.hopeproject.org/quilt-of-hope

SUMMARY:Wenatchee Valley Museum & Cultural Center
DESCRIPTION:Opening of the 2024 NCW Juried Art Show & Sale Exhibit at the Museum \nJoin us for the opening of the 2024 NCW Juried Art Show & Sale exhibit! Jazz Jam Quintet will be performing live music on stage from 6-8pm. Wine\, beer\, and cider are available for purchase for patrons 21 years or older.  \nThe 2024 Juried Art Show & Sale will be judged by Velocity Made Good founder Perri Lynch Howard\, CWU Campus Visits Manager Sarah Haven\, and WVMCC Board President Stephanie Stauffer. \nPerri Lynch Howard: Perri Lynch Howard is a multidisciplinary artist working in painting\, drawing\, installation\, and sound. Her work investigates the passage of light\, sound\, and signal through landscapes on the front lines of climate change—a phenomenology of place. Howards’ art has a global reach through exhibitions and sound installations completed in Italy\, Portugal\, Brazil\, Canada\, the Arctic Circle\, and in South India as a Fulbright Senior Research Scholar. She is a volunteer field recording ambassador with Quiet Parks International\, an avid adventurer\, and a private pilot. \nSarah Haven: While studying theatre as an undergrad\, Sarah Haven took a ceramics class on a whim\, and it changed the course of her life.  In 2003\, she relocated from Ohio to Washington for graduate school. Enthralled with the Pacific Northwest\, she decided to stay upon completing her MFA. After 12 exciting years at Gallery One Visual Arts Center\, a nonprofit in downtown Ellensburg\, Sarah recently returned to work at Central Washington University.  She relishes spending time-pinching pots in her basement studio as well as serving on the board of the Washington Clay Arts Association. Sarah’s pots are available at Saltstone Ceramics in Seattle\, WA\, and Northern Clay Center in Minneapolis\, MN.  \nStephanie Stauffer: Stephanie currently serves as board President of the Wenatchee Valley Museum and Cultural Center. For close to twenty years\, she has worked as a lawyer\, and is currently employed by Starr Ranch as its general counsel. Although Stephanie’s personal artistic skill is limited\, she appreciates creative expression in all forms and is immensely appreciative for the opportunity to participate in the 2024 Juried Art Show. \nAt the end of the exhibit\, the first-place winner will receive $500\, the second-place winner $250\, and the People’s Choice Award winner $200. Artists receiving awards will also receive one complimentary admission ticket to the Museum’s Night at the Museum on September 21\, 2024\, from 6 – 9 PM. \nLearn more about the NCW Juried Art Show on our website at www.wenatcheevalleymuseum.org\, or can be found here. \nThe Wenatchee Valley Museum & Cultural Center is open free to the public 4-8 PM on the First Friday of each month.
